I’m having a problem with Events triggering Alerts for the SQL Server
Management Pack, and am looking for some assists. I have configured MOM with
three different Events and Groups. I’m trying to get one two of the
events/alerts to fire when SQL Server Agent is stopped for one computer
group, and the other third event/alert to fire when the SQL Server Agent is
stop in a second computer group. My problem is only it appears that the only
time I can get event Test A-Event A/Alert A or Test B – Event “Copy of
SQL…..”/ Alert “Copy of Severity….” to fire is when I bind “Computer Groups:
DBA_Group1” to the same Rule groups and DBA_Group2 computer group. And when
I do that I get three Alerts to fire.
I started with the SQL Server Management pack, and then create Test A Event
and Alert manually, but I created the Test B events and alerts by copying the
“State Monitoring and Service Discovery” events and rules.
It appears that my created and copy rules will only fire when I associate
computer group DBA_Group1 with the original rules created with the SQL Server
Management pack what am I doing wrong?
Here is my rule group hierarchy.
Computer Group
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005
o DBA Group 1
ComputerA
o DBA Group 2
ComputerB
Rule Groups
- Test A (bound to Computers Groups: DBA Group1)
o Event Rules
Event A
o Alert Rules
Alert A
- Microsoft SQL Server (bound to no group)
o Test B (bound to Computers Groups: DBA Group1)
SQL Server 2005 (bound to Computers Groups: DBA Group1)
• Service Monitoring (bound to Computers Groups: DBA Group1)
o Event Rules
Copy of SQL Server Agent Service Health Check
o Alert Rules
Copy of Severity of “Critical Error” or higher – Database Administrator
o SQL Server 2005 (bound to Computers Groups: DBA Group2)
State Monitoring and Services Discovery (bound to Computers Groups: DBA
Group2)
• Event Rules
o SQL Server Agent Service Health Check
• Alert Rules
o Severity of “Critical Error” or higher – Database Administrator
