Hi,
Does anyone know how SQL Jobs are being monitored in SCOM? I have several
agents. These agents are running SQL 2005, and I have the SQL Server Core
Library, SQL Server 2000 (Monitoring), SQL Server 2000 (Discovery), SQL
Server 2005 (Monitoring), and SQL Server 2005 (Discovery)Management Packs
installed. I also looked through the Rules, i saw one rule related to Jobs
for SQL. And that is under sql 2005 agent 'a sql job failed to complete
successfully'.
i have my own MP.how can i include this rule in my MP so that
alerts can come from that server if any of the SQL job fails.
My queries:
- any more requirements or installations to be done?
- where will the alerts be logged?
can someone provide some useful feedback please..
Thanks in advance....

Hi smeeta,

You should look in the SQL MP guide, that guide explains the management pack
and how it works. You can copy/paste the rule to your own managemnet pack
and then reconfigure it. You can also export the first SQL MP and look in
the XML file for configuration tips. Alerts will be seen under Active Alerts
in the console.

Hi smeeta,

You can do that with command shell, for example

get-managementpack -Name "Microsoft.Windows.Server.AD.2003.Monitoring" |
export-managementpack -Path "C:\"

Hi Anders,
i dont think it will work. because it's showing an error as "A
parameter can not be found that matches the parameter name (management pack
name)". i think this command works only for the unsealed MPs as i found it
working for unsealed ones.

Thanks,

Hi smeeta,

This command works for sealed management packs, but make sure to type it
correct and also to use the correct MP name, not the friendly name.

Hi smeeta,

If you for example collect based on event ID and source you can add advanced
criteria and filter on words in the alert description too.
