Missing SQL Servers from Computer Group

I noticed that many of our SQL 2000 servers are not being discovered as such.
It looks as though the group is based on the existence of the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80\MSSQLLicenseInfo

Sure enough, some of my server have this, others don't (all SQL2000). Any
idea why this is occurring? Can I just do a reg import to fix the problem or
is there a better way?

media, etc)?

They are all developement servers installed from MSDN media. I noticed that
the servers that were being recognized as SQL2000 servers had an additional
component installed such as Reporting Services which must have created the
key.

this is the registry key that indicates a SQL 2005 installation

SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names\SQL

Is it present on any of the servers in question?

In case anyone else is interested...
The root cause of the problem is that SQL Server was installed from the MSDN
media - the installation does not create the appropriate key unless you
install something like Reporting Services or setup DTS. I've imported the
key from a working non-MSDN server and that seems to be working for the last
several days.

I've also been told from an MS employee that the SQL MP was not design to
support MSDN media-based server installations, but it *should* still work.

I dont see why SCOM cant maonitor MSDN. We have a large SQL environment and
of-course test things in DEV\TST before putting them into Prod - Including
SCOM monitoring rules and MP's. This does not make much sense to me....

The older MP worked fine.
