We've just installed the SQL 2000, 2005 Management pack. When I try to look
at a (filter) Alert view in the Operator console to only see SQL Alerts
(using the Microsoft SQL Server computer view) I see all open Alerts from all
computers (whether they are SQL or not)
I believe this issue is realted to one of the computer groups automatically
created, the 'Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Discovery' computer group.
This computer group uses a formula of AttributeValue(Microsoft Windows
Current Version)>="5.0", therefore pretty much all computer (whether they are
SQL servers or not) automatically become members of this group.
In itself this is not a problem, however, the Microsoft SQL Server computer
view in the Operator Console is configured to include all computers in the
'Microsoft SQL *' computer group, therefore, it includes computers in the
'Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Discovery' computer group which, based
upon the computer group formula, is all computers with an OS version of>=5.0,
which is all of our servers - not just SQL Servers.
Is there a way to change the configuration of SQL Server / computers view to
include all computers groups with the exception of the 'Microsoft SQL Server
2005 Service Discovery' - I could see a means of doing this?
Alternatively would there be an issues with renaming the 'Microsoft SQL
Server 2005 Service' Discovery group so that it doesn't match the 'Micrsoft
SQL *' computer group string, i.e. call it 'SQL Server 2005 Service
Discover'?
Thanks
Neil
